# Rehearse a decision

This is a public exercise written for this page, not a record of the author's established practice.

Start with the decision, intended outcome and constraints. Separate supplied facts from assumptions. Identify who would use, buy, operate or be affected by the choice. Use only perspectives relevant to this decision.

For each perspective, describe what would need to be true for the option to make sense, what might make it fail, and what evidence would change the recommendation. Simulated perspectives are hypotheses, not interviews, endorsements or observations about real people. Do not invent a customer's needs or budget.

Include the current approach or doing nothing as a real alternative when relevant. Compare the strongest case for the proposed option with its strongest useful objection. Avoid a theatrical debate or a false consensus between invented personas.

Return a provisional recommendation, the few assumptions that matter most, and the smallest practical test that could change the decision. State whose input is missing. Do not convert the exercise into authorization to contact people, spend money or implement the plan.
